"We will make a camp on Murree Road for four hours to collect more and more money for the quake victims", minister said while addressing a public rally held at Lal Haveli in connection with Iqbal Day. Besides Federal Information Minister rally was addressed by City District Nazim Raja Javed, Town Nazims Sh Rashid Shafiq and Hamid Nawaz, MPAs, Samina Jadoon and Fayaz Chuhan.
Sheikh Rashid said that relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction is a gigantic task and needs huge money. People of Pakistan have responded positively and generously and donated in cash and kind for their affected brethren. "We need huge money to save thousands of people living on mountain peaks before the dangerous winter arrive", he said.
"We are fighting against time and it is of course a race against time. Once winter arrived we would not be in a position to save people", minister said and added that world community should realise the gravity of the situation and respond in a generous manner.
He said that government has planned to give volunteers proper training of handling the situation during natural calamities.
Talking about the development work in Rawalpindi he said that he is thankful to President Musharraf who has provided sufficient funds for the development of Rawalpindi. "We would get more funds for launch of various mega projects in the city and a new era of development and prosperity would start", he added.
He said that for the first time in 58 years Cantonment Authorities provided land for construction of college in Gowalmandi area. Very soon college would be constructed. He said that filtration plants would be set up at all the tube-wells in 46 union councils to provide pure drinking water to masses.
He urged UC Nazims and councillors to work in their areas and serve people in a better way. Government would provide funds to all the union councils equally and roads and streets in UCs would be renovated. He said that there would be no discrimination in distribution of funds in Rawalpindi and government would take opposition along in the development of the area.
He said that he would always serve the interests of the Rawalpindi and serve people who voted him for resolution of their problems. "I will always use my efforts to serve people in a better way", he added.
